Upgrade Your Camera For Scrapbook Layouts That Pop

Although scrapbooking is about the 'story of our life', everyone knows that without photos, it would be more difficult. Photos are truly at the heart of scrapbooking, and the better photos you have, the more motivated you are to create beautiful pages and products. And what better way is there to get great photos than with a great camera? Sure you might have a decent camera, but how easy is it to use, how many great shots do you end up with for all the ones you throw away, and how versatile is your camera with regard to close ups, night shots, and action? Perhaps it’s time you upgraded your camera!

I know that is where I find myself right now. I had posted a while back that I was going to finally become friends with my camera and really learn what it had to offer instead of buying a new one. Well, unfortunately, my camera made a tumble on the pavement and I now find myself on this quest.

Even though scrappers are shoppers at heart, we still like to spend our money wisely, and buying a camera is no small investment. The cost of a new, very decent camera, however, is far outweighed by the joy and fun you’ll have when you “know” that the photos you take will be fantastic. If you’re thinking about upgrading, here are some things to consider:
  1. Can you go digital? Unless you are a classic, highly professional photographer with a love for tradition, digital is the current way to go. In general, digital cameras are easier to use, more forgiving, and cheaper to operate in terms of savings on film and prints.
  2. Do you have a computer to which you can upload your photos? The best way to work with your digital photos is on your computer where you can use a variety of different software programs to crop and modify your pictures.
  3. What are your needs? Digital cameras vary quite a bit in price and in features. Talk to other people who recently purchased a digital camera and ask them about what they like and don’t like. Research prices, specifications and reviews for all the cameras you are interested in so that you can make a good decision.
  4. Determine your budget. Remember that the price of the camera is one thing, but there may also be other costs associated. Accessory items you might need are a docking station, cables, memory cards, and perhaps even a printer that is capable of printing good quality color photos.

It’s always exciting when you have made the decision to upgrade any appliance or piece of equipment, and a new camera is no exception. The key to long-lasting enjoyment, however, is that the camera you do purchase does everything you want, at a price you can afford.

So after some research, reading reviews and determining my needs, I think I have settled on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i from Amazon.com. They have the best price and right now you can even get financing.

The Rebel is versatile in that I have access to all the automatic features I love, but can still have complete manual control when I want. The quality is outstanding, plus many of my scrapbooking friends and heros swear by their Rebel.

The basic camera is all I really need right now, but when I want to amp up my photography (like when I have more time), then there are all sorts of lens and flash accessories I can add.
