Artful or Dumped?

By Tammy M
One of our members, Barbra, asked a question in our Project Life forum about a photo taken of the contents of a purse:

". . . did you artfully arrange all the stuff from your purse or did you just dump it out? . . ."

So I tested out the two different methods and this is what I found:

Camera Tutorial

By Tammy M
We had a fantastic weekend! Hope you all did as well.

The weather wasn't great, but we had fun anyway. Our youngest and my hubby were on a band trip, which sounded like way to much fun. Our oldest and I spent Friday (day off from school) shopping for clothes and groceries, you know the necessities of life.

On Saturday, my cousin, who is a pediatrician in Arizona, came for a visit. It was so great to spend some time with him. He is also a photographer in his spare time. I was showing him my new camera and he

Sweetness and Sleeplessness

By Tammy M
I just have to share this special photo.

I capture it this morning while I was feeding his older brother breakfast. Is that not one of the most kissable faces ever?

Upgrade Your Camera For Scrapbook Layouts That Pop

By Tammy M

Although scrapbooking is about the 'story of our life', everyone knows that without photos, it would be more difficult. Photos are truly at the heart of scrapbooking, and the better photos you have, the more motivated you are to create beautiful pages and products. And what better way is there to get great photos than with a great camera? Sure you might have a decent camera, but how easy is it to use, how many great shots do you end up with for all the ones you throw away, and how versatile is your camera with regard to close ups, night shots, and action? Perhaps it’s time you upgraded your camera!

Photos of the Picture Taker

By Tracy E
I was so thrilled to finally get some pictures of me with my kids this summer.  In particular I spent a day in the mountains with some friends and my girlfriend took a number of shots of me and my two children.

As a mom I'm usually the one behind the camera taking the pictures, so I'm rarely in them, especially with the munchkins.  I can't believe how exciting it is to have these treasured photos now.  I've already got a couple on display in frames and I plan to scrapbook some more.  One of my favorites is with me and my son cuddled up on the green lawn.  Can't wait to make a page with it - it turned out soooo good.

Making Peace With My Camera And My Photography Skills, Or Lack There Of

By Tammy M
Have you ever felt like your scrapbooks would be so much better if you had all the perfect shots you see in the magazines? If only I could take great close ups? If only I could get my kid to smile like that? If only I could frame my shot better? If only... If only...

Well I have been challenged this summer by my younger cousin. Well he doesn't know about it yet, but it is still a challenge :).

First Day of School

By Tracy E
I can't believe the first day of school is coming up next week.  I'm very excited for it because it means routine again after a bit of a crazy summer.  My kids thrive on routine and I can tell they are ready for the fall schedule to begin.  How can I tell?  Well the tired eyes, whining and bickering has picked up steam - so it's time.  Mommy is included in this by the way!

I'm also looking forward to taking that "first day of school" picture in the same spot as last year.  I can't wait to compare it to the year before and see how much the kids have grown and then scrapbook it . . .

Taking Cool Pictures

By Tracy E
One thing I've really enjoyed about scrapbooking is that through it I have learned more about photography.  I used to just be the point and shoot photographer, not thinking creatively at all about my pictures.  Reading scrapbooking magazines and looking online has encouraged me to try new things.

Now, I still don't know or understand much of what my camera has to offer me, but what I do think about now is creative photography.  I no longer just take pictures of people, I also take pictures of objects and nature.  I try to use the rule of 3rds and get closer to my subject to cut out distracting backgrounds.  I also like the technique of taking pictures of people from slightly above them.  People tend to look better when looking slightly up than from face on.  It gives a neat perspective from the lens too.

Even my husband got into the mode.  So now when he takes pictures he keeps scrapbooking layouts in mind for me.  For instance, when we were at Disney World's Animal Kingdom, our son had a lot of fun playing on some African drums that were there.  My husband took  many shots of our son playing the drums, but he also took photos of the drum display and the sign above it.  They looked very artsy and worked awesome on my layout.

I still have much I want to learn about photography and would like to take a class some day.  But for now I'm enjoying what I do know and love playing around with my camera.  Oh the joys of digital photography!

Cheers!

Preparing For The Season In A Winter Wonderland

By Tammy M

Happy Winter everyone! I know I am a few days early for the 'official' day on December 22, however, with all the snow and the temperatures dropping, I couldn't resist!

Winter Wonderland 2008

This wasn't our first snowfall of the season, but I believe this one will be here for a while. This photo was taken out my kitchen window. It's a little gray, but I love how the snow is clinging to the branches like a blanket. I always like snow on the bare trees. I hate to see it turn bitter cold and the trees not have their 'blanket'.

As I sit here with my hot chocolate and wrapping paper - (almost done), I reflect on our traditions of this wonderful season. There are cookies to be made, meals to plan, friends and family to enjoy and games to be played just name a few.

The kids are out of school in a few more days and we can hardly wait to celebrate this Christmas season. They are counting the hours - literally.

I will spend this week finalizing a few plans, baking and cleaning up stuff on my desk so I can relax through the season. I also make sure I have taken photos of the 'process' of getting ready for the holidays. For me these photos can hold some of the best memories and the spirit of the season.

Don't forget to have your camera ready, fresh batteries and your memory card downloaded regularly. You don't want to be caught without it when the perfect moment arrives. If you would like some tips on taking some great holiday photos visit the photography section in the forum. If you have a tip or question be sure to add it while you are there.

Staying Warm,
