Reasons for Preserving Memories in Scrapbooks

By Tracy E
Today I've been thinking about how I want to portray myself and my life and family in my scrapbooks.  It's very easy to just scrapbook about the events, state the facts and move on. There is truly nothing wrong with that.  But for me, scrapbooking is therapeutic as well as a craft or artform I love; on top of a way to preserve memories.  It's a way that I impart my values to my kids, grandkids, and future generations.  It's a way to let others into my life and thoughts, even when I'm not around anymore.

There is a quote I love and it goes like this (never mind that it was from my fortune cookie!):

Time is precious, but truth is more precious than time.

I want truth to permeate all aspects of my life.  I want to live in truth and wholeness and know what is real so I can face it with courage.  What this means to me in terms of scrapbooking is that I portray things as they really are.  That means that I WILL someday make a page about my toddlers' having temper tantrums.  I WILL talk about my feelings about things, whether good, bad or indifferent and I WILL still make many, many more pages about my kids and what I think about them, what they are like and what my hopes and dreams are for them.  I will make pages about me, who I am, what I think and used to think, what I like, don't like etc, etc.  Real life is what makes scrapbooking so interesting and precious.
