I really want this to turn into the diary that I should be keeping
to remind myself of all the things my children do. I have taken
pictures of my children doing various things thus far and am
wondering from those of you who did this last year if you have any
advice on taking pictures of objects. I have taken a few pictures
that have stories to go with them i.e. my son's pacifier (which I
am dragging my heels at taking away) etc. Should I just save these
for days that I don't find time for a pic, or make sure I have one
or two in each weekly layout?

Jillian,
Capturing the memories of our kids' childhood is so precious. I
am excited that you are already doing your POTD.
One of the things I love about Project Life (or last years
Project 365) is that there really is no right or wrong way to do
it. It is about capturing your everyday life.
As for whether it should be pics of your kids or objects, I would
recommend that you use whatever photo holds the story. I love
that you took a photo of your son's pacifier. It holds the story.
If you want to balance out your week with some faces and some
objects that is fine too, but just be sure that you are capturing
the story. My first week of 2010 has a lot of objects and only a
couple faces, but I know that won't happen every week.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. Taking more pictures of objects is newer to me. I am also
using Project life to better my photography. I tended to be a
center the person in the frame, picture taker. Now I have an SLR
camera and there are so many options! I am trying to branch out a
little and experiment with my pictures. I am hoping that people
will post pictures or at least ideas of the different things they
are photographing, because I am sure in a few weeks I will need
some inspiration.

I have just been going on a whim about if I am taking pictures of
more objects or my children. I take multiple pictures a day for
their scrapbooks, but then I will see or think of something and I
say, I want that for my POTD. Today it was the mess of toys that
happens everyday the kids play, yesterday it was my new coffee mug,
because that little purchase made me feel good. I love this cause
there is no right or wrong, as that is how scrapbooking
is!

Hi everyone, I am ever so excited about Project Life, I just
finished week two. I have no children of my own but run a daycare
so I am always snapping pictures of them and my animals. I also
have branched to new things like some lamps that I purchased or
my new slippers I got for christmas and mother nature gave me
such a great picture. My last name starts with a W on the fence
outside my kitchen window one morning i was looking out and the
snow had accumulated there in a perfect row of W's. I am new to
posting pictures and am working on this so will share it soon. It
really is the little things that will matter when these books are
left to our loved ones. I would love to look back and see things
in my mom and dad's lives that I have recorded for my Nieces and
Nephews. I guess thats the approach I have taken record what I
would have loved to be able to see again. Donna

Good morning everyone,
Donna you answered a question I had about labeling our weeks. I
didn't know to start the first (New Year's Day}as a week or to wait
and start Sunday the third as week one. Is this week two or week
three for everyone? I agree with you, Donna, it is the little
things that matter. I am going to take a pic of my washer and
dryer. They are OU red, as in Oklahoma. :-) Love them.

I am on week three, as I included the last couple days in
December to make it a full week. It was just what made sense to
me. Donna

I am trying to go more with the plan of taking a photo that
represents something from that day. Sometimes that is easy, like
the day we went to the Rose Parade Float Viewing or a day at
Disneyland. But, there are far more days when we don't do much
out of the ordinary and don't even leave the house except for the
trip to drop off or pick up at the school bus stop. When there
hasn't been anything that day is when I take a photo of an object
that has a story, like my computer or my cell phone. I am trying
to get better at seeing the special things in my everyday life, I
think those are sometimes the hardest to document because I tend
to take them for granted.
Anyway, I am all for taking photos of things that have a story. I
think it is a good idea to hang on to a couple of those photos as
backup for the days that you miss or forget to take a photo.

Hello New Project Life Friends,
It's so much fun to read everyone's ideas. I did p365 last year and
started taking pictures of my kids everyday then realized I should
put more pictures of things, places, scenery, etc. I love that when
we were out I'd snap a picture at the library, dining out, movies,
school, shopping at mall. Those made the album even more special
because my kids will remember where we went, errands we did, what
stores they liked at the mall, etc. That's why this my new fave way
to record all these little memerios. I even made a list for this
year for certain weeks kinda like theme weeks. One week what my
kids wear to school everyday, what we ate for dinner, my daughters
hands because she's always repainting them, my son's homework for a
week, etc. I will also let them have the camera for a week thruout
the year to record whatever they want. I'm also giving it to my
husband to take to work so everyday we know what he did at work
when we can't see him. I hope this helps a little. Take pictures of
your family but every couple days/weeks mix it up a bit.

Oh - good idea Dawn - for your husband to take the camera to work.
After all, that's where he spends a good chunk of his day, and it's
a huge part of his life. Thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to
ask my hubby to take a pic of his office or something he's doing at
work.
