About

Tracy thought that pockets would be a great challenge for August as we begin to be inundated with our kids’ school papers and artwork. Pockets are a great way to store memorabilia from a trip, special school papers or birthday cards. Pockets are easy to make and there’s no end to what you can do with them.

On her “Sixty” layout she used a pocket to store the birthday cards. One of the cards was homemade and too big for the pocket so she scanned it, resized it and printed it on white cardstock so it could fit.

On her Disney World page she made the pocket out of a printed transparency and secured it with Disney-themed staples and purple brads. She added a strip of paper at the top of the pocket for better visual effect as well as some Disney character chipboards. In the pocket she housed tickets, brochures, maps and the sheet where she wrote their daily excursions while at Disney.

On her son’s Kindergarten page the pocket was super easy as it was his name place mat he used at school. She simply attached it with staple bars and inserted his memorabilia.

Show us how you used pockets on your next layout this month. Post your pictures here at Scrapbooker’s Inner Circle.com, Challenge of the Month group!

I have finally added my three photos above. I had also created a pocket for my Disney album.
    http://www.scrapbookersinnercircle.com/events/profile/1/pictures/104/2

I used transparencies so that you can see all the way to the bottom. In order to find the lip of the pocket I accented with ribbon and Mickey's glove.

To attach the transparency pocket I used staples and stitches. For accent, and extra strength on the corners, I added the flower eyelets.

I look forward to seeing everyone's use of pockets.

Remember they don't have to be full width like mine, they can little. I know I did one a while back to hold a lock of hair from our son's first haircut.

    Warmly,

I agree with Tammy on this. As you can see from my examples in the photos I used 2 page layouts and the pockets housed either birthday cards (Sixty layout), maps, ticket stubs and pamphlets (Disney layout), and a few of my son's Kindergarten keepsakes (K2 layout). I find pockets great for keeping items that are too big to fully display on a page, however there is always the option of scanning items to a smaller scale and displaying them. Also, pockets add an interactive component to a page as there is something hiding that needs to be discovered. Hope that helps.

    Molly,

When I add pockets, it is usually on a 2 page layout. One page is the 'feature' where all the pertinent details are displayed. It is easy to see and read. I use the pocket on the 2 page to hold other information that I wanted to keep, such as memorabilia from our trip, maps etc, but that aren't the focus. It is like a treasure chest of special nuggets without having to create multiple pages to display it all.

I am rather split as to what I think of doing pockets in a scrapbook or on a page. I feel that it hides the pertinent information from an event. I have used pockets on a classroom bulletin board, but on a page seems to hide information. Please help me to see this in a different way.
