Summer in many small rural areas mean it’s time to Rodeo!

Our little community is no different. Although our local Rodeo is a few weeks away, we have the privilege of having the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth being held, basically in our backyard.

The Calgary Stampede is in it’s final weekend for 2014 and we have be thoroughly enjoying the Rodeo events as well as our favorite – The Rangeland Derby. Nothing like watching those chuckwagon teams barreling around the track. Plus we always love to listen to Les McIntyre call each heat. How he mixes in the canvas sponsor with the race is truly amazing.

To celebrate the time honoured tradition of the Rodeo, I have put to together a printable. There is a mix of 4×6 and 3×4 cards you can print off your home printer or send to your local photo development source.

Rodeo printable zip file

Please note these cards are for your personal use only and are not to be reproduced or shared in part or in whole.

How to download/print

  1. Click on the image or link and download to your computer
  2. Right click on the folder and click “Extract All”
  3. Print the file to your color printer or send to your local photo developer
  4. Trim the 3×4 cards to the faint grey lines you see around the edge. This will give you the measurements you need to slide them easily into your photo pocket pages.

Quilt – Keep the Memories Alive

sweet Miss H

Miss H came to live with my cousin and her young family for this past school year as part of a student exchange program.

She came, not knowing English, our weather nor our Canadian customs.

She touched our lives and we are thrilled we had the opportunity to get to know her.

She left last month to return to her home in Japan where she will finish school.  “See you someday” was her goodbye.

We know she has big dreams and we are excited to stay connected and watch her adventure.

Miss H and her quilt

My mom and I made this Canadiana quilt for her to take home with her so she could get a “Canadian Family Hug” anytime she wanted one.

Mom embroidered part of our national anthem as well as the names of her host family (my cousin’s family) on the quilt.

Maple Leaf Fleece

Quilt details:

Size = 60″x60″
No batting (it’s warm where she lives in Japan)
Backing = Red Maple Leaf fleece (so snuggly)

Simple Purse Organization + A Giveaway!

If you are like me, organizational skills may not be something you were born with. However, we can learn!

Over the years, as I have learned to be more organized, I have found the following steps helpful:

1. Purge – what do I really need to keep and let the rest go

2. Find a home for what I really need

3. Consistently put away

4. Purge regularly (if I haven’t used in a year – time to let it go)

Sometimes #2 can be hard. Especially when the space you have is void of useful organization. Everything is dumped and tumbled altogether. Looking more like a heap of laundry instead of a neatly organized essential. Sound familiar? Think your PURSE!!

Purses - a must have accessory!

Ladies, we all know purses are a ‘must have’ accessory and I bet you don’t have just one. However, I bet you use only one most of the time, because – well it is painful and time-consuming to ‘change’ purses. Even one that has only what you need.

Purse Organizer

I discovered this neat little organizer on a TV commercial years and years ago. All I could say was BRILLIANT. Switch out to any purse in seconds and know exactly where everything is. No more digging around looking for keys! No I didn’t call the toll free number to order, but I stayed on the look out.

Organized Purse

I was surprised how hard they were to find. I did eventually find one and it has been in my purse(s) ever since. However I quickly realized I could have made it just as easily.

Now, I don’t need another one for myself, because, thankfully a girl only needs one. But I am going to give away a couple custom made purse organizers.

2 PRIZES to be WON

Add your NAME and COUNTRY to the comments below to enter to win a special, one of a kind purse organizer. (No two are alike)

1 Canadian Winner
1 International Winner

With Canada Day on July 1 – there will be a little patriotic flair to each organizer. The International winner will receive a custom organizer to compliment their country’s flag/colours.

Remember to include your Name and Country in the comments below. I will announce the winners on Monday, July 7th!

A Simple Way To Record Your Summer Holidays

Schools out! Canadian kids are trading the classroom for the park, backyard, lazy days (aka summer vacation)

One question that comes up every now and then is “How do you record your vacations, trips and holidays?”

Personally, I include most things in our family’s annual album. However, there have been a few exceptions.

Family Holiday - Trinidad and Tobago

Our month long trip to Trinidad and Tobago.
Being immersed in the culture of Rumilio’s birthplace and homeland
with our little family for a month warranted it’s own album for sure!
(I used the OLIVE Edition album and core kit – still a few available in the Canadian shop)

Family Holiday - Disney World

Our trip to Disney World (got it’s own album before the days of Project Life)

Generally though, I simply add the photos, journalling and memorabilia directly into the pages incorporating them into our family album.

Family Holiday - Alaska Cruise

Our Alaskan cruise
(I used the Project Life Signature Album in Black – still a few available in both shops;
and the journal cards are from the Amber Edition Core Kit -sold out)

Family Holiday - Hawaii

Our trip to Hawaii, celebrating my parents 40th wedding anniversary
(I used the Cherry Edition core kit and album – sold out)

One of my dear customers and readers, KATIE J. shared this idea from their recent holiday:

“I took a load of the cards on holiday with me in a ziplock bag and wrote the journalling for my pages in the evenings once my children were in bed.  It will make scrapping my holiday so much quicker once I get the photos printed, and the stories were written while they were fresh!”

Family Holiday - record your story

These cards are from the Project Life MIDNIGHT Edition

Isn’t that awesome!

What are some of the ways you plan to record your summer fun? Please share!
