Quilt – Keep the Memories Alive

sweet Miss H

Miss H came to live with my cousin and her young family for this past school year as part of a student exchange program.

She came, not knowing English, our weather nor our Canadian customs.

She touched our lives and we are thrilled we had the opportunity to get to know her.

She left last month to return to her home in Japan where she will finish school.  “See you someday” was her goodbye.

We know she has big dreams and we are excited to stay connected and watch her adventure.

Miss H and her quilt

My mom and I made this Canadiana quilt for her to take home with her so she could get a “Canadian Family Hug” anytime she wanted one.

Mom embroidered part of our national anthem as well as the names of her host family (my cousin’s family) on the quilt.

Simple Purse Organization + A Giveaway!

If you are like me, organizational skills may not be something you were born with. However, we can learn!

Over the years, as I have learned to be more organized, I have found the following steps helpful:

1. Purge – what do I really need to keep and let the rest go

2. Find a home for what I really need

3. Consistently put away

4. Purge regularly (if I haven’t used in a year – time to let it go)

Sometimes #2 can be hard. Especially when the space you have is void of useful organization. Everything is dumped and tumbled altogether. Looking more like a heap of laundry instead of a neatly organized essential. Sound familiar? Think your PURSE!!

Purses - a must have accessory!

Ladies, we all know purses are a ‘must have’ accessory and I bet you don’t have just one. However, I bet you use only one most of the time, because – well it is painful and time-consuming to ‘change’ purses. Even one that has only what you need.

Purse Organizer

I discovered this neat little organizer on a TV commercial years and years ago. All I could say was BRILLIANT. Switch out to any purse in seconds and know exactly where everything is. No more digging around looking for keys! No I didn’t call the toll free number to order, but I stayed on the look out.

Organized Purse

I was surprised how hard they were to find. I did eventually find one and it has been in my purse(s) ever since. However I quickly realized I could have made it just as easily.

Now, I don’t need another one for myself, because, thankfully a girl only needs one. But I am going to give away a couple custom made purse organizers.

A Simple Way To Record Your Summer Holidays

Schools out! Canadian kids are trading the classroom for the park, backyard, lazy days (aka summer vacation)

One question that comes up every now and then is “How do you record your vacations, trips and holidays?”

Personally, I include most things in our family’s annual album. However, there have been a few exceptions.

Family Holiday - Trinidad and Tobago

Our month long trip to Trinidad and Tobago.
Being immersed in the culture of Rumilio’s birthplace and homeland
with our little family for a month warranted it’s own album for sure!
(I used the OLIVE Edition album and core kit – still a few available in the Canadian shop)

Family Holiday - Disney World

Our trip to Disney World (got it’s own album before the days of Project Life)

Generally though, I simply add the photos, journalling and memorabilia directly into the pages incorporating them into our family album.

Family Holiday - Alaska Cruise

Our Alaskan cruise
(I used the Project Life Signature Album in Black – still a few available in both shops;
and the journal cards are from the Amber Edition Core Kit -sold out)

Family Holiday - Hawaii

Our trip to Hawaii, celebrating my parents 40th wedding anniversary
(I used the Cherry Edition core kit and album – sold out)

One of my dear customers and readers, KATIE J. shared this idea from their recent holiday:

“I took a load of the cards on holiday with me in a ziplock bag and wrote the journalling for my pages in the evenings once my children were in bed.  It will make scrapping my holiday so much quicker once I get the photos printed, and the stories were written while they were fresh!”

Family Holiday - record your story

These cards are from the Project Life MIDNIGHT Edition

Isn’t that awesome!

What are some of the ways you plan to record your summer fun? Please share!

Unplugged = Rejuvenate

Earlier this month, Rumilio and I had the luxury of 4 days jetted away and unplugged.

Last year Rumilio had earned this trip through work. We had to chuckle, as he did just what he always does every day, provided exemplary customer service to his customers. However, it was appreciated that his boss recognized his daily effort in this manner.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

We jetted off to Las Vegas, Nevada for 4 days of sun (and oh boy was there SUN). We spent 3 days golfing in 30° + temperatures – crazy I know. Only one day was I not able to finish 18 holes as it was reaching 40° and clearly I was not prepared. One word – Dehydration. Seriously, this Canadian body did not know what to do with that kind of heat.

Oh, but we had fun despite the crazy heat. We did catch a show. Of course, we are in Vegas, so you gotta catch a show. We walked the strip. Rumilio had never been to Vegas before, so we walked from MGM to Caesar’s Palace. Saw the fountain at the Bellagio. Got lost in Caesar’s Palace. We ate some great food. I recommend Gallagher’s in New York New York for a great steak and Rumilio loved the lamb.

Our last day was spent doing a bit of shopping.

It was wonderful to unplug from our technology and spend some truly uninterrupted time together.

Just what we needed.
