journaling….

how much do you journal on your layouts? with me, it depends on the layout. If the pics speak for themselves, I don’t see the need for a lot of journaling. But other times, I might journal a lot esp. if I am just using one or two pics on the layout. just curious on how much everyone does.

  1. Donna,
I heard this awhile ago ”Just start writing, and when you run out of anything to say then stop
    writing.” Stacy Julian maybe.

  2. thats good advice…thanks for sharing

  3. Donna,

I am like you. Lots of my pages don’t have much more then a title.

However one thing I have learned to do almost without failing is making sure the date is on every layout. Even if it is just the year. I remember looking through my families history albums and being disappointed that there was no reference as to when the event photographed took place. I resolved to be sure that the date is on everything, regardless of how much detail I provide in the journaling.

Now when I look through my own scrapbooks, if I notice a layout without a date, I am sure to add it – before I forget when it happened.

Glenna, that is a great suggestion too.

  4. Journaling is the toughest part for me. I have the hardest time getting going with it. The length of journaling on my pages varies.

  5. For me, a layout really isn’t finished until I’ve journaled. I do have a LO every once in awhile that doesn’t have any journaling, but it is rare. I always make sure to include the 4 Ws – who, where, when and and why – because, like Tammy said, I am very disappointed when I look at my grandparents and parents photo albums and there is nothing on the photo or page to tell who is in the photo or when it was taken. I’m in the process of going thru’ my grandma’s old pictures with her and making note of as much info about each picture that she can remember then I hope to (someday) make a heritage album.
I just think the stories behind the pictures are just as important as the pictures themselves. Or they will be to our grandchildren! I do wish I could do more heartfelt journaling, like Rebecca Sower. I’m working on it, but that style of writing is a bit more difficult for me – I seem to be a “meat and potatoes” type of journaler.
